Now that the Kursk has been raised, investigators are piecing together
the events during and after the explosion. Much of the crew, including
command, was killed instantly. The few remaining suffocated from lack
of air, there was not time to drown. "What happened inside these compartments
was hell," said Russian Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov.

Dengue Fever

As if there weren't enough bioterror already, perhaps Dengue Fever is next.
It's a longshot -- but the first cases since 1943 were reported last month,
in Hawaii. That outbreak is more or less contained, but Dengue is a nasty
bug, according to a State senator who was afflicted, "50 times worse than
any flu or cold I ever had."

Iran cracks down on satellite

The government of Iran is embarrassed by a groundwell of support by its
citizens for the United States, and has taken steps to stop the flow of
information to its people. Already 1000 satellite dishes have been seized,
with perhaps 150,000 more seizures contemplated.

Devils Night in Detroit

Every year before Halloween, kwazy kids set hundreds of fires in Detroit,
in a tradition going back to the 19th century. Perhaps by lamely renaming
it "Angels Night", the mayor hopes to put a stop to the flammable evening --
but arson's foes have been trying since 1994 to do just that.

Man Bites Kitten

bitten off the head of a kitten yesterday still had fur in his mouth when taken
into custody, New Zealand police said."
