The Register | Submitted by: thbb

Information Lockdown
The Nation | Submitted by: Soylent
The U.S. government wants to remove the policy of open information in favor of a "born secret" standard, where any information that the public wants must be pried out through legal means. BBC | Submitted by: Soylent
"A flash fire burned thousands of trees near the impact site. An atmospheric shock wave circled the Earth twice. And, for two days afterwards, there was so much fine dust in the atmosphere that newspapers could be read at night by scattered light in the streets of London, 10,000 km (6,213 miles) away."

Associated Press | Submitted by: Soylent
Teenagers with nothing to do? "Kenneth Stabler, 16, of Mount Vision, was shot three times, Christopher Ruke, 16, of Morris was shot twice, and James Fisher, 17, of Morris, was shot once, according to police." Why were they shot? They took turns shooting each other with a .22 because it's apparently fun.

Choccolocco Monster
Anniston Star | Submitted by: Soylent
"When the shots rang out, Neal Williamson was standing on the side of Choccolocco Road, draped in a white sheet and holding a cow skull above his head. He was doing a little dance, which, when combined with the outfit, made him the Choccolocco Monster, the chimera that haunted these backwoods for days more than three decades ago."

Texas protected by Luftwaffe
Dallas Morning News | Submitted by: Tuff
"The four-page ad in Texas Monthly shows the officer in crisp, gilt-edge dress blues against a backdrop of the American stars and stripes. But the uniform is of the Luftwaffe, complete with military insignias and a name-tag bearing the German flag."
