While there is a long history of head-shaping in Latin America, Joshua Brissett apparently did not use tried and proven techniques, and instead broke the skull of his infant son. Maxwell's hobby seems to have been to find young girls through newspaper articles, and make telephone contact or otherwise talk dirty with them. When police raided his place, they found a "cache of homemade pornography, in which Maxwell pasted pictures of young girl's heads onto the bodies of adult women in pornographic poses."
