Is that a human finger in your custard?
Irish Examiner | Submitted by: anonymous
"The Australian Police Journal has reported that an elderly woman had already
used about half of the powder in a custard packet when she discovered an object
that appeared to be a large dead cockroach. But when she brought it to the
Health Department, it was found to be a dried-up human finger. The following
investigation revealed that a factory worker had lost two fingers in a machine
with rotating blades. One digit made its way into the custard packet
the woman had bought."

Canada attempts to censor US website
Eye | Submitted by: yesguy
A Canadian human rights tribunal has ordered a California based website,
Zundelsite, shut down. "Paul Fromm, director of the Canadian Association for
Free Expression, says the ruling is a "disaster" for free speech in
Canada, especially since it wouldn't affect Zündel anyway. "The most damaging
thing to free speech in this ruling is that truth is no defense," Fromm
says. "In human rights cases, the truth doesn't count, only people's feelings."

Vatican: Illness caused by sin
Times | Submitted by: anonymous
According to the Vatican, those who get sick have gotten so because they
have sinned. Those innocent babies born with illness: perhaps they are not
so innocent (who knows what sins they might have committed in the womb.)
"Man’s desire to be healthy, good-looking and strong is justified because it anticipates our future salvation. One cannot deny that death, of which illness is an anticipation, has always been seen as a consequence of sin."

Woman to live in bodybag at dump
IOL | Submitted by: george_lazenby
"Brophy will start her "dump action" on Wednesday at the Athlone refuse
transfer station. She will stay in a black bag day and night without even
basic amenities. "This will be a real experience, not a gimmick or stunt.
I want to express solidarity with all those children who never had a
chance to live in this world, and to make desperate mothers aware that
there are alternatives to dumping babies," she said."
[But who will express solidarity for all the misdirected women of the world?]

NY sues McAfee over attempt to restrict speech
Associated Press | Submitted by: Lunachick 13
Antivirus makers are a slimy bunch. So it's no surprise that when you buy
McAfee Antivirus from Network Associates Inc, one of the clauses in
the "contract" is that you are not permitted to criticize the software in
a review. In fact, the company seems to think you can't write a review at
all without their explicit permission. This isn't just some text they threw
in the license and ignored; in 1999 they attempted to enforce the language
against Network World magazine. The State of New York is now suing McAfee
over this.

Tit-in at Sixth and Trinity
Austin-American Statesman | Submitted by: Soylent
"The protest -- named something clever that rhymes with "sit-in" -- is
scheduled for 11 p.m. Saturday at Sixth and Trinity streets. Both men (yech!)
and women are welcome to take off their shirts for the movement. "Love fest
no fighting!" the flier says. See, the reason the police are banning the
exposing of female breasts at Mardi Gras on Sixth this year is, they say,
that it starts fights among the guys."
[Next year, don't miss the Shit-In.]

British Telecom claims patent on hyperlinking
Reuters | Submitted by: Soylent
Add British Telecom to the list of truly evil companies. They are claiming
a patent on hyperlinking, despite evidence existing in the form of a 1968
film from Stanford University (yes, 1968.) "Cella, for one, questioned
whether the Engelbart film would hold up in court, adding that the heavily
indebted BT would be unlikely to head to court and incur millions of
dollars in legal fees if it thought the film could harm its case."
But it's actually more likely that they are that dumb.

Bin Laden brand heroin
The Smoking Gun | Submitted by: Soylent
"New York City's drug dealers, always on the cutting edge of bad taste,
are now selling heroin packets labeled "Bin Laden," and which carry a
crudely drawn image of a plane flying towards the World Trade Center."
