Drunk Russian orchestra thrown off plane
Washington Post | Submitted by: anonymous
An entire Russian orchestra, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, was thrown
off United Airlines Flight 947 at Washington DC. "The group was misbehaving,
inebriated, opening their own bottles of alcohol, rowdy and
non-responsive to the crew. I want to apologize to the passengers on the
Amsterdam leg who had to put up with that and the passengers on the L.A.
portion who were delayed."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has taken objection to
Florida State University's use of "Bovine Bingo" during a fund raising
event. A field is divided into squares, and the winner of the game is
the person who purchased the square the cow decides to take a runny
shit in. "PETA expressed its concerns in a letter to FSC President
Thomas Reuschling in January, saying it can be emotionally devastating
for an animal to be exposed to ridicule."

Media hegemony coming
Washington Post | Submitted by: Soylent
"The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia invalidated a
Federal Communications Commission regulation that had prevented one company
from owning TV stations and cable franchises in the same market. The court
also ruled that the FCC had acted arbitrarily in limiting the number of
television stations that a single company can own."
These media conglomerates are already too large and in control of too many
content assets as well as their delivery mechanisms. This decision will
only make things worse.

Microsoft and the Great Game
The Economist | Submitted by: Soylent
"What this convergence of technologies means is that Microsoft is
witnessing the arrival of real rivals—ones who are formidable enough to
take over a large part of the future software business. The problem for
Microsoft, which has come to dominate traditional personal computers
through its Windows monopoly on the operating system, is that computers
are now coming in all sorts of guises."
