Green River Killer finally snagged
Wire Services | Submitted by: The Gamble
"Uttering the word 'guilty' 48 times with chilling calm, Gary Leon Ridgway admitted Wednesday he is the Green River Killer and confessed to strangling four dozen women over two decades - 'so many women I have a hard time keeping them straight.'... He struck a plea bargain that will spare him from execution for those killings and bring life in prison without parole for one of the most baffling and disturbing serial killer cases the nation has ever seen... He said he left some bodies in 'clusters' and enjoyed driving by the sites afterward, thinking about what he had done. He said he sometimes stopped to have sex with the bodies... Other serial killers have bragged of murdering many dozens of victims, but Ridgway's plea agreement, signed June 13, puts more murders on his record than any other serial killer in U.S. history."

'They were skinned from nose to tail. The fur was still on the paws - that's the only spot.'"

FBI uncertain about 20th hijacker identity
CNN | Submitted by: jimbo
"An operating theory exists among some U.S. government investigators working on the September 11 case that a 20th hijacker was intended in the terrorist airliner attacks... Officials said that while the FBI is looking into the possibility of a potential 20th hijacker, other U.S. officials cast doubt on the concept. The theory became public as a footnote to a document released Friday in the case of alleged terrorist Zacharias Moussaoui, who earlier had been suspected as a possible 20th hijacker on September 11. The footnote reads: '[A]s late as August 2001, al Qaeda was still trying to insert new hijackers into the September 11 attacks.'"

Republican Congressmen endorse war profiteering
releases.usnewswire.com | Submitted by: lostboy
"The final version of the $87 billion spending bill for Iraq and Afghanistan is missing provisions the Senate had passed to penalize war profiteers who defraud American taxpayers... 'Senators Leahy, Feinstein, and I joined together to criminalize war profiteering - price gouging and fraud - with the same law that was passed during World War II... I fail to understand how anyone can be opposed to prosecuting those who want to defraud and overcharge the United States government and the American taxpayers.'"

Vatican: masturbation bad for the transmission
Independent Online | Submitted by: DocJen
"'Driving only in first gear, not only do you prevent the Ferrari expressing its full power, but gradually you wear it out and thereby ruin a masterpiece of technology,' Father Giordano Muraro wrote in the magazine Vita Pastorale. Muraro was responding to a reader who asked whether it was sinful to masturbate in the absence of one's spouse in order to reduce sexual tension." [Much healthier to molest altar boys, presumably.]

Long distance companies assfucking prisoners
Christian Science Monitor | Submitted by: Soylent
"Most states require inmates to make collect phone calls. And because these states (with a few notable exceptions, like Nebraska) have struck lucrative, exclusive deals with major telecom companies, they force inmate families to pay collect rates as much as four times higher than regular customers pay... In 2000, Ms. Olshansky of the Center for Constitutional Rights filed two class-action lawsuits in New York State against MCI and the DOCS, seeking $90 million in damages for inmates' families and an end to the contract."
