Israel's official answer to Rotten.com
Sydney Morning Herald | Submitted by: Killraven
"The Israeli Government has taken the horror of a suicide bus bombing directly to the public via a video on the internet, bypassing what one official called the 'distorted' coverage of the international news media... The ministry's decision to put the five-minute, 38-second video on its website just hours after the explosion that killed 12 people has set off an emotional public debate... Some of the most gruesome images from the bombing were edited out of the version now on the website, Mr Sztulman said. Even so, the footage is jarring: bodies, their appendages bruised and bloodied, lie at unnatural angles; a pile of brains is partially covered by a piece of fabric; blood drips from flesh hanging on the bus window."

Senate mail handlers exposed to ricin
CNN | Submitted by: Crazy Quagga
"Preliminary tests on a white, powdery substance found in the mailroom of Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist indicate the presence of the deadly substance ricin, a Homeland Security official said Monday. A U.S. Capitol police spokeswoman said the department is investigating the matter but would not comment on the substance found, saying only that preliminary tests were positive for a 'hazardous substance.' ... Ricin is a natural, highly toxic compound that comes from castor beans, used to make castor oil. It can be inhaled, ingested or injected... One milligram of ricin, a dose the size of the head of a pin, can kill an adult. If inhaled, ricin can cause death in 36 to 48 hours from failure of the respiratory and circulatory systems."

Janet Jackson (sort of) apologizes for titty
MTV | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"One day after Janet Jackson's shocking Super Bowl halftime performance, the singer took responsibility for the breast-baring incident and said she never intended the stunt to go as far as it did. 'The decision to have a costume reveal at the end of my halftime show performance was made after final rehearsals,' Jackson said... 'MTV was completely unaware of it. It was not my intention that it go as far as it did. I apologize to anyone offended - including the audience, MTV, CBS and the NFL.' Jackson's performance shocked onlookers when Justin Timberlake - who was performing with her - pulled off a piece of Jackson's costume, revealing her right breast."

Superbowl breast illustrates TiVo supremacy
CNET News.com | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Users of TiVo, the digital video recorder system that lets viewers pause and 'rewind' live television broadcasts, apparently couldn't get enough of pop diva Janet Jackson's fashion fiasco during the Super Bowl halftime show Sunday... TiVo subscribers hit rewind on the Jackson-Timberlake incident nearly three times more than they did on any other moment during the broadcast. That makes the moment the most rewatched ever during a broadcast in three years of measuring audience reactions, a TiVo representative said. The findings were based on an anonymous sampling of 20,000 TiVo subscribers who watched the Super Bowl."

World's least surprising prison story
The Advertiser (Adelaide) | Submitted by: Uncle Jerky
"A guard found the pubic hairs of an inmate in his chocolate pudding during a shift at the Townsville prison last week. The officer had sat down to eat the dessert last Saturday night when he made the gruesome discovery. And worse was to come when inmates confessed that food cooked for officers often contained saliva and urine. The pudding also had been served on plates on which inmates regularly rubbed their genitals."

11% of Britons essentially worthless
BBC | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"More than one in every 10 workers in England are incompetent at their jobs, a survey of 72,100 employers suggests... A total of 2.4 million workers were classed by their employers as not being fully proficient in their current job - equivalent to 11% of the total workforce, the LSC said. And 22% of employers said their workforce's skills were not up to scratch - resulting in higher operating costs, orders being lost and new product development being delayed."

Sudanese hating life
Eugene Register-Guard | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"It sounds like a place stricken by a biblical plague - disease after unimaginable disease, all come to rest in one pitiful region of a vast African country. Worms oozing out of people's feet; two kinds of flies whose bites cause death in bizarre ways; a baffling syndrome that throws children into seizures and retards their development before it ultimately kills them. While some of these devastating diseases can be found scattered around the world's poorest places, it is only in southern Sudan that they are all seen together in one country at the same time... Southern Sudan is one of the poorest and most neglected areas on Earth, with possibly the worst health situation in the world."

Pat Robertson still posing as God's ventriloquist dummy
Virginian Pilot | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Pat Robertson is standing by his assertion that God told him President Bush would easily win re-election this fall. Robertson conceded in a Sunday interview on CNN, however, that Democratic front-runner Sen. John Kerry is a 'formidable' challenger... Robertson offered no prediction on who will get the Democratic nomination. 'I don't have a clue,' he said with a laugh. But the president's re-election 'was a lot more certain with Dean the candidate than with Kerry, I'll tell you that.'" [Why would the choice of opponent make the outcome any less clear to Jehovah?]
