Roboshitter experiences catastrophic failure
BBC | Submitted by: Soylent
"A so-called 'superloo' exploded in a town centre when an electrical fault caused water to surge back into the toilet, blowing off its roof and lifting the pavement. Luckily no one was using the Automated Public Convenience at the time but it was badly damaged and remained closed on Wednesday while engineers worked at the site... Officers found the roof ripped off and smoke coming from inside. Parts of the surrounding pavement had also been lifted. A spokesman said there were also unconfirmed reports that nearby traffic lights had been affected... 'It doesn't appear to be vandalism or terrorism, it does appear to have been a technical problem.'"

Inside the world of the hated cadaver artist
The Australian | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Hidden in a maze of factories in the heart of the north-eastern Chinese port city of Dalian is the house Gunther von Hagens built... The anatomist, whose exhibits of preserved human corpses have riled religious leaders in Europe and attracted the curious and the outraged across the world, set up shop here three years ago to process bodies for his shows... Von Hagens launched his Body Worlds exhibits in 1997... The displays feature healthy and diseased body parts as well as skinned, whole corpses in assorted poses – a rider atop a horse, a pregnant woman reclining – that show off the preservation technique von Hagens developed in 1977."

More reasons to invade North Korea
London Observer | Submitted by: Nicolai
"In the remote north-eastern corner of North Korea, close to the border of Russia and China, is Haengyong... this remote town is home to Camp 22 - North Korea's largest concentration camp, where thousands of men, women and children accused of political crimes are held. Now, it is claimed, it is also where thousands die each year and where prison guards stamp on the necks of babies born to prisoners to kill them... chilling evidence has emerged that the walls of Camp 22 hide an even more evil secret: gas chambers where horrific chemical experiments are conducted on human beings."

High school teacher transferred for alleged bigotry
New Orleans Times-Picayune | Submitted by: dianalily
"Sitting in Wes Mix's 10th-grade world history class at West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Maryam Motar said she had become used to the 'jokes.' First, there were the times when she said her teacher thought she was of Indian descent and called her 'Little Curry One.' Then came jabs about how Motar, an Iraqi, hailed from a Third World country, she said. Thursday's tease, the 17-year-old sophomore said, was about how she would 'bomb us' if she ever went back to her country. Motar said the final straw came Friday as Mix was passing out tests. After pulling back her religiously mandated head scarf, or hijab, Motar said Mix told her, 'I hope God punishes you. No, I'm sorry, I hope Allah punishes you.' ... Reached at home Tuesday night, Mix called the incident a 'nonissue' and a 'bunch of craziness.' He said he was enjoying a dinner of red beans and rice and a beer. 'I'm not worried at all,' he said.'"

Ibiza: STD ground zero
BBC | Submitted by: Lydia
"The holiday island Ibiza is a potential hotbed for sexually transmitted infections, a survey suggests. Researchers questioned 1,500 young Britons who travelled to the island between 2000 and 2002. They found one in four men and one in seven women had sex with more than one person during their stay... half of those who had travelled to the island without a partner had sex during their stay. Just 60% said they always used a condom... Some 11% of men and 3% of women had sex with six or more partners. Almost 9% said they had sex from someone who was not from the UK."

Store inventory includes a dozen human skulls
Cleveland Plain Dealer | Submitted by: P.Leon
"The Cuyahoga County coroner's office confirmed Tuesday that skulls found by employees of Marc's discount stores are human. Marc's thought it bought 50 cartons of toys and a carton of clay figurines at auction. What it didn't expect was a box containing human bones - 12 skulls, in fact - most of which had a ceramic coating. Workers at the discount chain's warehouse in Brook Park called police Friday after discovering the bones in a box they thought contained clay handicrafts. Police later took the carton and skulls to the coroner."
