Foster children forced to feed grandpa's corpse
ABC TV affiliates | Submitted by: newzproducer
"A New Jersey couple is accused of forcing a 13-year-old foster child to repeatedly feed the corpse of an elderly relative who died in the house months ago... Apparently the 13-year-old foster girl had to deal with the stench, and swirled the food around in the plate to make it look like her 82 year old step-grandfather had been eating... The first floor of the home was well kept, but the upstairs has been described as deplorable. Cops removed the body from the home last August, and say there is no doubt the couple knew that the elderly man had died."

OK, now you can start with the McCarthy comparisons
KCCI-TV 8 Des Moines | Submitted by: threat alert jesus
"In what may be the first subpoena of its kind since Sept. 11, 2001, a federal judge has ordered a university to turn over records about a gathering of anti-war protesters... In addition to records about who attended the event, the subpoena asks the university to divulge all records relating to the local Chapter of the National Lawyer's Guild, a New York based legal activist organization which sponsored the forum. The group, once similarly targeted for alleged ties to communism in the 1950s, announced Friday that it will ask a federal court to quash the subpoena."

Michigan internet voting proceeds despite all logic
Boston Globe | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"The Michigan Democratic Party is sticking with its Internet voting system even though security concerns have prompted the Pentagon to abandon its own online voting efforts, a state party spokesman said on Friday. The Defense Department on Thursday abandoned a pilot project that would have allowed overseas troops to vote online after computer experts warned that hackers could easily tamper with the results. But in Michigan, 25,000 voters have already cast their ballots online for Saturday's Democratic presidential contest, spokesman Jason Moon said. 'I don't know the specifics, but our system is not same system by any means' as the one used by the Pentagon, he said. Moon said the party had set up a secure Web site protected by two firewalls, guarded by the computer-security firm Symantec Corp... Two computer scientists who found flaws with the Pentagon's system said the Michigan system had many of the same problems."

Georgia backs away from "evolution" ban
Gainesville Times | Submitted by: I Choose The Matrix
"Six days after her plan to remove the word 'evolution' from Georgia's science curriculum became public, state schools Superintendent Kathy Cox announced Thursday that she was scrapping the idea altogether. Her decision came after mounting criticism from former President Jimmy Carter, the state's governor and a host of political and education leaders. 'I want you to know today that I will recommend to the teacher teams that the word "evolution" be put back in the curriculum,' she said in a written statement after canceling a scheduled news conference... Cox, a Republican elected to her post in 2002, had called for replacing the word 'evolution' with the phrase 'biological changes over time' in the state's curriculum."

Microsoft includes fuck-pillow with Japanese Xbox
Wired | Submitted by: FUCK CORPORATE RADIO WHORES
"This month marks the two-year anniversary of the launch of the Xbox video game system in Japan, and so far, things have not gone as planned for the Redmond, Washington-based software giant. In fact, Microsoft's entry hasn't yet sold 500,000 units, making it one of the worst-performing game consoles in the country's history. Still, the Xbox has its supporters - and by and large, they're fans of the Dead or Alive games that feature a bevy of barely legal, high-resolution digital girls who fight in skimpy outfits and play volleyball in skimpier ones. The DOA games are the only two Xbox titles to break 100,000 units sold in Japan. So, to celebrate the Japanese release of Dead or Alive Online next month, Microsoft is rolling out a special edition Xbox set with an extra-special bonus - a dakimakura, or 'hugging pillow,' that features a life-size, front-and-back print of teenage character Kasumi in a skimpy bikini."

Ex-fireman alleges major pervosity at fire station
Springfield News-Leader | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Several Kansas City firefighters had sex at a fire station with female visitors, with a superior sometimes watching them, according to a lawsuit by a firefighter who says he was threatened, suspended and demoted after complaining. Raymond Littrell filed the suit this week in U.S. District Court against the city and Fire Chief Richard 'Smokey' Dyer... The lawsuit said Littrell complained to his battalion chief in November 2002 that a woman who had been having sex with several male firefighters at the Westport station threatened to call his wife and 'expose what was going on at Station 19' if Littrell wouldn't repair her vehicle. A fire captain watched the firefighters' sexual encounters and 'would commend them on their performance from time to time,' the lawsuit said... The lawsuit said that Littrell has been advised that firefighters at four other stations have engaged in similar activities, and that he has 'videotape of women being lured into the back of Station 19 indicating that the same activity is probably going on at Station 19 to this day.'"

Mexico unhappy about Mexicans on death row
Fox News | Submitted by: I Choose The Matrix
"If Mexican officials get their way, 52 convicted murderers awaiting executions in the United States could get off death row. Authorities in Mexico say the killers deserve new trials, because they didn't get proper access to help from consular officials... The International Court of Justice, commonly referred to as the World Court, has already ordered the United States not to carry out the death sentences until it issues a ruling. At least three executions have been stayed thus far by U.S. officials."

Disney bans Segways
Miami Herald | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"The last time Doug Exum went to Walt Disney World, he rented an electric scooter to get around the resort's four theme parks. But he tired of sitting and the scooter cost him $200. The next time the 42-year-old computer programmer from Plano, Texas, returns, he wants to bring his Segway, which allows him to stand up as he scoots about on its platform and battery-operated two wheels. There's only one problem: Disney World doesn't allow visitors, even those with disabilities like Exum, to use the self-balancing transportation machines. The policy has angered some Segway owners with disabilities... Disney World doesn't allow the Segways into the parks because they haven't been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as medical devices, said park spokeswoman Jacquee Polak... Disney World isn't the only place to restrict the use of Segways. They're also prohibited at Disney's California parks - Disneyland and California Adventure. Sea World Orlando says it doesn't allow them for safety reasons and San Francisco last year outlawed them on its sidewalks."

TiVo users freaked out over sudden realization
CNET News.com | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"On Monday, TiVo said the exposure of Jackson's breast during her halftime performance was the most-watched moment to date on its device, which, when combined with the TiVo subscription service, lets viewers pause and 'rewind' live television broadcasts, among other features. TiVo said users had watched the skin-baring incident nearly three times more than any other moment during the Super Bowl broadcast, sparking headlines that dramatically publicized the power of the company's longstanding data-gathering practices... Although TiVo could conceivably investigate an individual's viewing habits, it doesn't, a spokesman said... TiVo this week signed a deal to provide data to Nielsen Media Research, a leading provider of information on television-viewing habits. Under the agreement, TiVo will supply Nielsen with anonymous data on the habits of subscribers who have agreed to hand over their information, giving Nielsen its first look at the tendencies of DVR users. Nielsen spokesman Jack Loftus said Thursday that the next deal Nielsen reaches with TiVo, or any other DVR supplier, will involve more valuable demographic information about viewers, such as age or sex."

Another American flips off Brazil
CNN | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"In the second incident of its kind in three weeks, an American was arrested Friday after making an obscene gesture while being fingerprinted and photographed at a Brazilian airport as part of the entry requirements for U.S. citizens. Douglas A. Skolnick, a retired bank worker from New Jersey, raised his middle finger while going through the new entry requirement at the international airport in Foz de Iguacu, a southeastern resort town famous for its massive waterfalls...
