FBI investigating its own destruction of evidence
Arkansas Democrat-Gazette | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"The FBI ordered a review of some aspects of the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing investigation Friday, reopening the question of whether Timothy McVeigh may have had more accomplices... the FBI ordered agents to determine why some documents did not properly reach the bureau's Oklahoma City task force during the original investigation or get turned over to McVeigh's lawyers before he was executed in 2001, officials said. The review will also try to determine whether FBI agents in a separate investigation of white supremacist bank robbers may have failed to alert the Oklahoma City investigation of a possible link between the robbers and McVeigh, and allowed some of that evidence to be destroyed."

Coked-up NYFD fireman crashes into another firetruck
New York Times | Submitted by: machiamako
"A firefighter was under the influence of cocaine when he drove one fire truck into another at a Bronx intersection last week, causing a multivehicle accident that injured at least nine firefighters and two other people... [Fire Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta] said he was 'truly shocked' and 'appalled' to learn that Firefighter Thomas Lennon, 41, had tested positive for cocaine during a routine check after the collision of the two fire trucks on the morning of Feb. 21."

ACLU alleges Texas prisoners used as sex slaves
Houston Chronicle | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Texas' official investigation of a convict's allegations of sexual slavery and torture was a whitewash to cover up the prison system's refusal to stop the abuse, the American Civil Liberties Union charges... 'Gang members routinely bought and sold Mr. Johnson as chattel, raped and degraded him on a virtually daily basis, and threatened him with death if he resisted,' the lawsuit alleges. Prison officials repeatedly refused Johnson's pleas to be moved to another cellblock and 'made clear by words and deeds ... that they took sadistic pleasure in his victimization.'"

Blix figures he was probably bugged too
CNN | Submitted by: Frenchconnection
"Former chief U.N. weapons inspector Hans Blix says he suspected his home and office were bugged by the United States. But Blix said he had no hard evidence listening devices had been planted. 'It feels like an intrusion into your integrity in a situation when you are actually on the same side,' Blix told Britain's Guardian newspaper in an interview. Blix's allegation comes after a diplomatic row broke out when former British minister Clare Short said the UK bugged the office of U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan as the U.S. and Britain tried, but failed, to get U.N. support for the war on Iraq... On Friday, another former U.N. chief weapons inspector Richard Butler said his phone calls were regularly bugged while he was in charge of investigating Iraq's weapons programs in the late 1990s. He added that he was forced to meet his contacts in New York's Central Park because the telephones in his office at U.N. headquarters were insecure."

Man struck by SUV, dragged 8.5 miles
WJLA-TV 7 Chevy Chase | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A Lorton motorist is facing several charges after police say he hit a man on Interstate 95 and dragged his body 8½ miles. Fairfax County Police said Josuel Galdino, 25, of Lorton called them about 6 a.m. Sunday to report a man's body was caught in the front-end suspension of his sport utility vehicle. 'He said he thought he ran somebody over at the interstate and by the way the man is dead, laying in front of his house,' said Sophia Grinnan, a police spokeswoman. Investigators said Fitsum Gebreegziabher, 27, of Woodbridge had got out of his car because of a flat tire in a southbound lane of the interstate near the Fairfax County Parkway. Grinnan said Gebreegziabher was struck and killed, and his body dragged to Galdino's home."

Yes, electronic voting is still fucked
New York Times | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Rob Behler isn't saying Max Cleland's Senate seat was stolen by rigged electronic voting machines, but he insists it could have been. Mr. Behler, who helped prepare Georgia's machines for the 2002 election, says secret computer codes were installed late in the process. Votes 'could have been manipulated,' he says, and the election thrown to the Republican, Saxby Chambliss... Defeated candidates who think they were robbed are nothing new in American politics. But modern technology is creating a whole new generation of conspiracy theories - easy to imagine and, unless we're careful, impossible to disprove. The nation is rushing to adopt electronic voting, but there is a disturbing amount of evidence that, at least in its current form, it is overly vulnerable to electoral mischief."

Liquor agents charged with corruption
Honolulu Star-Bulletin | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Corrupt investigators at the Honolulu Liquor Commission were so brazen about their bar shakedowns that they openly discussed which businesses to target on their shifts, divvied up payoffs at commission offices and even told bar owners about upcoming vacations so money would be paid to underwrite those off-island trips, according to a key figure in next month's federal trial of three former investigators. In exchange for ignoring liquor law violations, some of the eight investigators originally indicted for allegedly taking bribes sometimes solicited sex from bar employees instead of cash, former investigator Charles Wiggins told the Star-Bulletin last week."

University students very picky about definition of "sex"
Globe and Mail | Submitted by: bush_fucker
"Just over three-quarters (77%) of the males interviewed said that anal intercourse without orgasm qualified as having sex, meaning that the same act wasn't sex at all to 23%. If orgasm happened with anal intercourse, 84% of the men said it was sex. For females, the figures were 80% and 83%. Among males, 10% did not consider vaginal intercourse to be sex if orgasm failed to happen. For women, 96% said vaginal intercourse without orgasm constituted sex. Approximately the same percentage for both men and women defined sex as vaginal intercourse with orgasm. Fewer than a quarter of the students said that oral sex - with or without orgasm - was real sex."
