Man allegedly cannibalizes kidnapped toddler
New Indian Press | Submitted by: Uday
"Police have arrested a man they say kidnapped a two-year-old girl before roasting her on a fire and eating her because he was starving. The gruesome incident took place in a jungle hamlet in Nellore district in Andhra Pradesh about a week ago, a police officer said on Friday, and came to light after the 42-year-old man was later discovered gorging on a buffalo carcass... Parents of the missing girl, who lived in a neighbouring village, feared the worst when they heard of the incident and went to the area where the man was caught. Their fears were confirmed when they found the girl's head, a limb, some jewellery and clothes strewn near the site."

Nutball gets 18 years for attacking atheists, killing 1
Wire Services | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A devout Christian who killed a man and injured his wife in a frenzied axe attack after they told him they were atheists was jailed for 18 years in Australia yesterday... [Drifter Ashley John Appoo, 40] was hitchhiking in November 2001 when John Leslie McDonald and his wife Alois picked him up and took him home for lunch. He ended up staying two days at the couple's home in rural Queensland before Alois told him she and her husband were atheists. Appoo began punching the woman, then turned on her husband when he tried to intervene. The court was told Appoo then went outside, seized an axe and began attacking the couple, hitting John McDonald in the head and leg. McDonald died from his injuries and his wife sustained fractures to her jaw, ribs and ankle and an axe wound to her leg. Defense lawyers said Appoo had suffered from violent rages and a personality disorder since 1995 when he was hit on the head with a didgeridoo."

Local GOP luminaries tainted by Catholic sex scandal
Orange County Weekly | Submitted by: juanholmes
"[The Orange County Republican Party] owes much of its strength to a chummy relationship with the Orange diocese, one that began in earnest thanks to former party chairman Tom Fuentes, who served as the diocese's communications director from 1977 to 1989... Fuentes supervised Jerome Henson, whom diocesan officials accepted in 1983 despite knowing of an 1981 incident in which Sacramento-area police caught Henson in a graveyard at night with a 13-year-old boy's legs wrapped around his face; mega-developer William Lyon allowed Harris to live in his home, while fellow community maker Art Birtcher bought him one; hotel developer Tim Busch placed John Lenihan on the board of advisors for his private JSerra High School; and hamburger emperor Carl Karcher continued giving thousands to his home parish, St. Boniface in Anaheim, even after Lenihan admitted to molesting a teenage girl during the 1970s."

30 boat people rescued, 13 already dead
San Francisco Chronicle | Submitted by: jcool_83
"The Spanish coast guard intercepted a drifting boat of would-be immigrants from Africa on Thursday and found 30 dehydrated survivors standing atop 13 bodies in what emergency service officials described as a scene of 'horror.' The men, who had no fuel or water for three days, were found about seven miles off the island of Fuerteventura, one of the easternmost islands of Spain's archipelago off West Africa... Rescue services noted that the men were standing because the floor of the boat was covered with the bodies of the dead... With Thursday's deaths, the number of immigrants who have died this year while trying to reach Spain from Africa rose to 82."
