Women allegedly forced to fuck farm animals
Expatica | Submitted by: Tami H.
"The trial of two Belgian brothers, and three other people accused of kidnapping, raping and forcing women to have sex with animals for pornographic videos has opened in the Dutch city of Lelystad. Two Belgians and a Dutchman were arrested in April last year on accusations they forced three kidnapped female asylum seekers to have sex with men and animals in a farm shed... Three young North African asylum seekers were kidnapped in Belgium and forced to undergo various sex acts in the farm shed, until one of the women escaped in April to a nearby farmhouse and alerted police. It was revealed in a pre-trial hearing in July that the three women possibly escaped a brutal death in which they would have been dismembered in front of a camera and murdered for a 'snuff' film. The gang had allegedly already made contact with people who were willing to carry out the crime."

Arizona Daily Star | Submitted by: FIRESTAR

The 33-year-old woman was being treated late Tuesday for second- and third-degree burns, said Rick Flores, battalion chief for the Rural/Metro Fire Department... The incident started about 2:20 p.m. when the woman's 18-year-old daughter called 911 to report her mother was trying to kill herself... When deputies forced their way into the barricaded home, they found the woman pouring lighter fluid on a fire in the bedroom, Flores said. She had also poured lighter fluid on her 3-year-old daughter, who was standing in a crib in the bedroom. KTUU-TV 2 Anchorage | Submitted by: optional
"Forty-year-old [Kenneth Padgett] was convicted last spring for suffocating his mother, Charlotte Miles, and then stuffing her duct-taped body into the breakfast bar of her mobile home. Coroner allegedly steals death scene meds
Rockford Register-Star | Submitted by: Democracy is Dead
"Sheriff's investigators arrested Rock County's six-term coroner on suspicion she stole painkillers from the homes of dead people and took fees that were meant to pay for cremation permits... [Karen Gilbertson] was arrested after former chief deputy coroner Melissa Haverly told investigators Gilbertson 'steals prescription drugs when we take medication, such as painkillers, from a deceased person's home,' according to a court document reviewed by The Janesville Gazette. Haverly said Gilbertson offered her drugs several times, including morphine... Out-of-county funeral homes sometimes made checks payable to Gilbertson for cremation permits, which Gilbertson kept without reporting them to the county accounting department, Haverly said, according to the document. Gilbertson told Haverly she deserved the money because of 'all the work that she does,' it said."

Appellate court hears lethal injection challenge
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A week before California plans to execute Donald Beardslee, a federal appeals court on Wednesday weighed a request to bar use of a chemical that would render the condemned man incapable of crying out in pain... It's supposed to render the prisoner unconscious but, argued lawyers on Beardslee's side of the case, it may not do so. A conscious inmate would experience asphyxiation from the Pavulon and then a searing sensation throughout his veins from the last chemical in the series, potassium chloride... [Senior Assistant Attorney General Dane Gillette] said no explanation should be required from the state until Beardslee proves that an unconstitutionally painful execution is likely - a possibility that Gillette minimized but his opponents called hard to predict because of the state's secrecy."

ABC TV affiliates | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Police responded around 3:10 p.m. to an apartment at 135 Carolina St. When the first officer arrived, he was met outside by a 78-year-old woman wanting assistance with her live-in grandson, according to police. The woman's grandson, Frank Munafu [6'1", 180 lbs], joined the conversation and, without provocation, punched his [5'2", 120 lbs] grandmother in the face, police reported. Munafu then allegedly turned and attacked the officer with punches to the head and face. The officer tried to retreat and call for assistance, using pepper spray, a baton and a Taser stun gun as Munafu continued to advance, police said. Munafu, undeterred, reportedly pulled out the Taser darts and fought with the officer on the ground as other officers arrived."

Cat lady facing big fat slap on the wrist
Reno Gazette-Journal | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"[Julia Rush] pleaded guilty Dec. 22 in Dayton Justice Court to animal neglect and cruelty charges. Lyon County officials - responding to complaints - found about 60 cats, nine horses and dozens of dogs on her property... Some of the horses had overgrown hooves, to the point of cruelty. Dogs were penned in kennels full of mud and feces with food that had just been thrown to them, he said. The cats were feral (wild). Water bowls were full of algae and trash... [Ted Bolzle] said they found a female dog and seven pups in the back room in about a foot of filth and dog feces... The judge allowed Rush to find homes for many of the dogs, but most had to be euthanized because they were vicious or diseased, Bolzle said. About half the feral cats were diseased and had to be euthanized."

WXII-TV 12 Piedmont | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Forest Emery, 48, was arraigned in Tuesday morning on charges of cruelty to an animal and cruelty with intent to maim for allegedly hitting his neighbor's dog six times with a shovel, breaking 10 of its teeth. Emery's neighbors allege that he called their house threatening to do something about the dog seven minutes before the attack. They said his message was recorded on their answering machine. Replayed, the recording said: 'As I am fearful of that dog because he's crazy, I'm asking you to move him from the rotation. If you don't, I'll deal with it. Bye.' Within minutes after the message was left, Emery was allegedly in their yard by their shed attacking the dog with the shovel, horrifying family members and friends. 'I saw him hit him twice. I heard him hit him three times. I saw him lift the shovel over his head twice to hit the dog over the head. It was just disgusting,' witness Robert Debello said."

Goth kid allegedly threatened Columbine attack
WDIV-TV 4 Detroit | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A possible attack at a high school in Lenawee County was foiled by a teenager's threatening computer messages to his girlfriend in Wayland, police said. The 17-year-old boy, a former student at Tecumseh High School who now attends Adrian High School, apparently was angry with Tecumseh students who considered him odd because of his gothic dress and style... 'The messages were quite graphic and specific about the weapons he'd use and how he'd do it,' [police chief Dan Miller] told The Grand Rapids Press... 'The police over there said the weapons were his father's, but he had access to them.' WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids reported that the weapons discussed included long-barrel guns and semiautomatic weapons."

Tulia cop fighting perjury charge
KCBD-TV 11 Lubbock | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Michelle White and her daughter Kizzie White both plan to spend their free time this week listening in on the trial of Tom Coleman. Both are members of the original Tulia 46... Tom Coleman now faces up to ten years in prison if he is convicted for allegedly lying during an appeals trial. That's not long enough for those he put behind bars. Kizzie says, 'They gave me 76 years for the Tom Coleman conviction, so I don't think it's fair that he get off with ten years for perjury, because of what he did to the 46 of us.' Michelle says, 'What I really would like to see happen is all the 46 defendants the ones that went to prison, all the years we got, add them all up and give them to Coleman or divide them amongst the Sheriff, the D.A. and Coleman.'" [No shit.]

Brain researchers turning to torture
BBC | Submitted by: clementine
"Volunteers are to be 'burnt' by scientists to see if faith eases pain. Oxford University scientists will carry out experiments on hundreds of people in a bid to understand how the brain works during states of consciousness. One aspect of the two-year study will involve followers of both religious and secular beliefs being burnt to see if they can handle more pain than others. Some volunteers will be shown religious symbols such as crucifixes and images of the Virgin Mary during the tests... Centre deputy director Toby Collins added: 'The reason we are using pain is that it is easily standardised but varies greatly between individuals.'"

Wire Services | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A North Carolina-based soldier has admitted fabricating a story he told high school students on Cape Cod about a 10-year-old Iraqi suicide bomber... Iraqi insurgents allegedly tweakers
North County Times | Submitted by: clementine
"I've talked to several U.S. military and civilian personnel who recently returned from Iraq... One military man told me: 'It was surprising to us as to how much crystal meth, or some other form of methamphetamine, that the bad guys had in Fallujah... Sometimes it was hard understanding what to us was insane conduct - even in combat situations - until we realized many of them were hyped on meth. They acted as though they were impervious to our gunfire sometimes, which meant it might take a few extra rounds to kill 'em.' ... In Iraq, the military is running into an enemy who is driven not only by religious fanaticism, but whose motivation to harm U.S. troops is fueled by methamphetamine." [Something about this sounds fishy.]

Pentagon mulled faggrogen gas R&D
New Scientist | Submitted by: optional
"The Pentagon considered developing a host of non-lethal chemical weapons that would disrupt discipline and morale among enemy troops, newly declassified documents reveal. Most bizarre among the plans was one for the development of an 'aphrodisiac' chemical weapon that would make enemy soldiers sexually irresistible to each other. Provoking widespread homosexual behaviour among troops would cause a 'distasteful but completely non-lethal' blow to morale, the proposal says... The proposals, from the US Air Force Wright Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio, date from 1994... Spokesman Edward Hammond says it was not known if the proposed $7.5 million, six-year research plan was ever pursued." [Let's only hope they were successful.]

Crazy people angry at teddy bear
Boston Globe | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"The Vermont Teddy Bear Co. plans to continue selling its 'Crazy for You Bear' through Valentine's Day, despite protests from mental health advocates. The bear, wrapped in a white straitjacket with a red heart on the front, comes with commitment papers... 'A straitjacket is not a symbol that we want to associate with sales of a teddy bear for loved ones over Valentine's Day,' [Jerry Goessel from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill] said. 'And the use of commitment papers, legal documents committing an individual to involuntary treatment, is not something to be taken casually.'"
