"[Upali Gunasekera] was strolling in the garden was swept away by the tsunami tidal wave... He clutched a floating stool with one hand and a chair with the other to keep himself afloat. KARE-TV 11 Minneapolis | Submitted by: Mrs. Erickson
"There are still many unanswered questions about the death of a 49-year-old woman found outside the Como Park Conservatory on Sunday morning. St. Paul police believe the disabled woman, who relied on a scooter to get around, tried to attend an event at the conservatory Saturday night and found the door was locked. They believe she tried to go to the other side of the building, but her electric scooter tipped over and she was unable to get it back up. Eight hours later she was found frozen to death... State unlikely to thwart prisoner suicide
Scotsman | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A man accused of killing his newlywed daughter is refusing to eat while on remand in prison and insists that he wants to die, a court heard yesterday. Terry Rodgers, 56, was absent from a Nottingham Crown Court hearing to discuss details of the murder of Chanel Taylor, 23. She was shot dead in her home on 30 July last year, just weeks after her wedding. If Rodgers is judged to be mentally competent, the prison authorities have no power to intervene in his decision to refuse food... A Home Office spokesman said yesterday: 'Any form of food refusal is something that is taken extremely seriously by prison staff. Force-feeding would constitute medical treatment and there must be valid consent.'" [Then why not give him a bottle a poison?]

"A former colleague of corrupt ex-cop Chris Laycock today described his associate as 'one of the most competent young officers' with whom he had worked... Laycock last year admitted he and others, including [Christopher Walker], tipped off a child porn suspect for cash, planned to kidnap the family of an alleged drug dealer and used fake search warrants, all to extort cash. Mr Walker faced contempt proceedings last week after he repeatedly failed to recall details of such dealings before the PIC. He took the stand again today on the condition he would co-operate with Operation Cobalt but only recalled limited 'lawful' involvement with Laycock."
