Kidfucking principal flees justice, inexplicably
New York Daily News | Submitted by: Satan Ex Machina
"A former Brooklyn principal who had sex with an 8-year-old girl skipped out on $100,000 bail when he failed to show for sentencing yesterday. Under a deal with prosecutors, Leroy Johnson had pleaded guilty to sexual conduct against a child and was to get 12 years in prison. But when he failed to appear, Queens Supreme Court Justice Barry Kron sentenced him in absentia to 20 years and ordered a warrant for his arrest... Johnson was principal of Public School 25 in Bedford-Stuyvesant from 2000 until his arrest July 2, 2003. Prosecutors believe he had sex with the girl, now 14, for six years and had threatened she would be 'placed in an orphanage' if she told authorities. The evidence against him included taped conversations between him and the victim."

Robosniper ready for Iraq deployment
Springfield News-Leader | Submitted by: Deth Vegetable
"The Army is preparing to send 18 of these remote-controlled robotic warriors to fight in Iraq beginning in March or April... Special Weapons Observation Reconnaissance Detection Systems, will be the first armed robotic vehicles to see combat... Operators work the robot using a 30-pound control unit which has two joysticks, a handful of buttons and a video screen... Its developers say the SWORDS not only allows its operators to fire at enemies without exposing themselves to return fire, but also can make them more accurate. A typical soldier who could hit a target the size of a basketball from 300 meters away could hit a target the size of a nickel with the SWORDS, according Quinn. The better accuracy stems largely from the fact that its gun is mounted on a stable platform and fired electronically, rather than by a soldier's hands." [Next stop: ED-209.]

Resignations follow performance art piece
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Two tenured art professors have resigned from the University of California, Los Angeles, after the university refused to suspend a graduate student who may have used a gun during a classroom performance art piece... The resignations came after a brief performance on Nov. 29 in which a student simulated Russian roulette by appearing to point a loaded handgun at his head and pull the trigger, a student and law enforcement officials told the Los Angeles Times. The weapon didn't fire, but the student then left the room and what sounded like a gunshot was heard outside. Police said no one was hurt. It was unclear whether the firearm was real."

Austrian denounces Schwarzenegger
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger should be stripped of citizenship in his native Austria for approving the execution of a convicted killer, a leading Austrian politician said Saturday. Peter Pilz, a top official with the environmentalist Green Party, said the Austria-born Schwarzenegger no longer is worthy of citizenship in his homeland because he broke the law by clearing Donald Beardslee's execution on Wednesday. Capital punishment is illegal here... [Pilz] told Austrian media he sent the Interior Ministry a letter formally requesting that the government begin the process of terminating Schwarzenegger's citizenship... Rarely, if ever, has Austria taken the extraordinary step of stripping someone of citizenship. Not even Kurt Waldheim, the former Austrian president and U.N. secretary-general linked to Nazi war crimes, had his citizenship revoked."

Tissue replicator under development
BBC | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Scientists are developing an inkjet printer that can create 'made to measure' skin and bones to treat people with severe burns or disfigurements. The University of Manchester team say the inkjets will be able to 'print out' tailor-made human cells to fit a patient's exact dimensions. Human cells are suspended in a nutrient-rich liquid before being printed out in several thin layers. Project leaders say the method could be used to build an organ in a day... The printers create three-dimensional structures, known as tissue scaffolds."

Cop allegedly took naked pix of David Bowie's kin
New York Daily News | Submitted by: Satan Ex Machina
"A NYPD detective has been charged with taking sexually explicit photos of legendary rocker David Bowie's stepdaughter after she was brutally raped, it was disclosed yesterday. Investigators recovered 15 shocking photos of Stacia Lipka, 24, in Staten Island Detective Richard Vecchio's files at the 123rd Precinct stationhouse. 'These are the type of pictures that you would see in Hustler or some other pornographic magazine,' said a source close to the probe. Investigators also seized X-rated photos allegedly taken by Vecchio inside the stationhouse showing intimate body-piercings of a woman he had arrested in January 2004 for leaving the scene of an auto accident, sources told the Daily News. That woman has filed a similar complaint about the cop."

Judge rules in favor of porn, common sense
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: Soylent
"A federal judge has dismissed obscenity charges against a California pornography business, finding obscenity statutes unconstitutional in the case. Because people have a right to view such material in the privacy of their own home, there's a right to market it, U.S. District Court Judge Gary L. Lancaster said Friday in dismissing the case against Robert Zicari and Janet Romano, both of Northridge, Calif., and their company, Extreme Associates... The judge also found that the state cannot ban material simply because it finds it objectionable... Investigators didn't just happen upon the videos; they had to join and order them, [defense attorney H. Louis Sirkin] said... Sirkin said the community standards notion was outdated because of growing access to the Internet."
