Cult leader on trial for allegedly murdering wife
Manila Bulletin | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"[Cult leader Ruben Ecleo Jr.], leader of the Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association (PBMA) and former mayor of San Jose in Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte, is accused of killing his wife Alona in January 2002... Judge Econg, the sixth judge to handle the parricide case, denied a defense panel's motion to recuse herself from hearing the case. The defense filed the motion following reports that two women, believed to be members of the PBMA, tried to bribe her. Although they did not question Econg's integrity, lawyers Salatandre Jr. and Giovanni Mata said the judge might feel bad, especially toward the defense, after the bribe attempt."

Husband finally jailed for murdering slutty wife
Mirror | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Lady in the Lake murder victim Carol Park was revealed yesterday as a serial sex cheat... [Gordon Park] killed Carol with a ice axe and dumped her body in Lake Coniston where it lay undiscovered for 21 years... Hell-bent on fun, the attractive young schoolteacher enjoyed a string of intense affairs and twice left home to live with other men before returning to the family home. She even suggested Park took other women in an 'open marriage.' ... Park, now 60, thought he had carried out the perfect murder."

Starving horses allegedly reduced to coprophagy
Idaho Statesman | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"At least 87 horses, many described as starving and severely neglected, were impounded from a Gem County ranch Wednesday... Paul and Karen Shay are each charged with 10 misdemeanor counts of animal neglect according to Gem County Sheriff Clint Short... 'When you've got 90 head of horses you're going to have a few thin horses,' [Paul Shay] said, adding that the couple's horses were well fed... Shay said he believes the county has been planning to seize the horses in order to pressure the couple into selling their property for the highway... Idaho Humane Society spokeswoman Dee Fugit said the horses had no access to vegetation and were standing in mud up to their knees, eating their own feces to survive. 'They had nothing,' Fugit said. 'Nothing.'"

Beastiality conviction upheld
Wire Services | Submitted by: CaptainSquanto
"The [Nebraska Supreme Court] unanimously rejected the appeal of Romona Anglemyer, a 32-year-old woman who had worked at the now defunct Mataya's Babydolls club. She argued that videotapes confiscated by police at the club showing several people, including Anglemyer, performing sex acts with animals should not have been entered into evidence at her trial... Anglemyer did not contest that the activity shown on the videotapes constituted indecency with an animal, a misdemeanor. What she had argued was that the tapes should not have been admitted without the testimony of a witness who actually saw the events depicted and could testify to the tapes' accuracy... The tape in question had a date stamp and the hotel room in which it was taken was identified by police."

College newspaper editor allegedly into child porn
Sacramento Bee | Submitted by: jcool_83
"A Fresno City College newspaper editor was arrested on federal child pornography charges after allegedly admitting he had possessed photos of girls having sex with adults. Felix Arthur Sanchez Jr., 26, was held without bail after appearing Friday in U.S. District Court on charges of possessing and distributing child porn. A detention hearing was scheduled for Wednesday. Sanchez told officers he was not aroused by the material but was 'curious about the sexual development of female children,' according to court papers filed by investigators." [Lamest excuse ever.]

Stripper, accordion player win big in lion lawsuit
Wire Services | Submitted by: CaptainSquanto
"A stripper mauled by a tiger in an Ontario safari park has won $650,000 in damages because her scars meant she could no longer work, Canadian media said on Friday. Jennifer-Anne Cowles was driving through the park nearly nine years ago with her then boyfriend when a tiger jumped into their car and tried to drag them away. The two insisted their windows had been shut when the tiger charged, although the park had challenged that. The judge accepted the couple's testimony that the power windows had been inadvertently lowered when one of the big cats bumped against the car, frightening them... Her musician boyfriend, David Balac, won C$1.7 million, because his injuries left him unable to work as an accordion player."

Hypothermia deaths apparently enabled by meth
Omaha World-Herald | Submitted by: Nick J
"Sometime the night of Jan. 5 as Janelle Hornickel and Michael Wamsley made call after call to 911, a Sarpy County sheriff's deputy discovered footprints in the snow... But he found no sign of the couple, who authorities said Friday were under the influence of methamphetamine when they froze to death in the snow... Hornickel was found wearing high-heeled boots, blue jeans and a hooded T-shirt. Wamsley was wearing blue jeans and a hooded sweat shirt. Temperatures that night dropped to 4 degrees below zero. Urine tests performed by the Creighton University Medical Center revealed that methamphetamine, amphetamine and marijuana were in their systems."

Professor not making friends in New York
WNBC-TV 4 New York | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"In 'Some People Push Back,' a treatise he wrote shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, [university professor Ward Churchill] said the 3,000 people killed in the twin towers weren't innocent victims. He said they worked for 'the mighty engine of profit' but chose to ignore their role. Churchill, an indigenous issues expert, described the World Trade Center victims as 'little Eichmanns,' a reference to Adolf Eichmann, who carried out Hitler's plan during World War II to exterminate Jews in Europe. He called Eichmann a technocrat who 'crunched numbers' and made the trains that carried Jews to death camps run on time. Churchill said Thursday that those in the Trade Center were technocrats whose work was just as deadly." [An utterly moronic thesis.]

Cop disciplined for Tasering geezer
Wire Services | Submitted by: CaptainSquanto
"Officer Hattie Jean Macon received a verbal warning and was required to attend a Taser retraining course after the investigation found she acted prematurely when she used the 50,000-volt Taser, according to the report released Thursday. Macon was called to the nursing home after Margaret Kimbrell refused to leave. Kimbrell has said she was distraught after the staff would not disclose the location of her sick friend, and she became concerned the friend had died. Kimbrell jerked away from the officer and swung her arm at Macon, according to a police report. The officer then fired the Taser, police said."

Marine lives through 9 separate bombings
CNN | Submitted by: Mr Luthore
"The first time Lance Cpl. Tony Stevens was bombed in Iraq, a car packed with 155 mm shells exploded next to his Humvee just as a device containing five more shells detonated beneath it. By bomb No. 9, the former baseball minor league shortstop had become a good luck-bad luck icon and the awe of his 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment patrolling the so-called 'triangle of death' south of Baghdad. With a couple of weeks remaining in his second tour of duty in Iraq, the 26-year-old might be counting the days a little more closely than most and has become a seasoned, battle-hardened veteran of the laws of physics." [Somebody should bankroll this guy for a Vegas trip.]
