Children allegedly starved, tortured, homeschooled
CNN | Submitted by: crisp
"A manhunt has been launched in Florida for a couple accused of torturing five of seven children in their home, including pulling out their toenails with pliers and keeping them so malnourished that they 'looked like pictures from Auschwitz,' authorities said Thursday. Citrus County Sheriff's spokeswoman Gail Tierney said an arrest warrant was issued for John Dollar, 58, and his wife, Linda, 51... The Dollars are accused of forcing the five children - who ranged in age from 12 to 16 - to sleep in a closet in the master bedroom with a 'wind chime affixed to the door so that the Dollars would know if they tried to get out of the closet,' Tierney said. In addition, they are accused of using a cattle prod or some sort of stun gun to shock the children, bonding them to certain spots in the house with chains, striking their feet with hammers and pulling the children's toenails out with pliers... She said it also appeared as if the Dollars tried to keep them inside the home as much as possible, and each child was home-schooled."

Debbie Rowe apparently ceded all rights to Michael
MTV | Submitted by: Householdsix
"Recently filed court documents reveal the nature of [Michael Jackson's] confidentiality agreement with ex-wife Debbie Rowe, as well as how much she's fought to be part of her children's lives. What Jackson's second ex-wife has been barred from doing, the documents say, is selling or giving interviews about 'confidential information' regarding the singer and their two children, Paris and Prince. That includes paternity, Jackson's mental or physical condition, purported drug use, sexual behavior, the children's lifestyle, and their location, according to a declaration filed last month by Rowe's lawyer Iris Finsilver... Rowe is not allowed to communicate with the children, Jackson or his representatives except to make travel arrangements or to send cards or letters to the children."

Vegan couple expecting another child
South Florida Sun-Sentinel | Submitted by: Casu Marzu
"The parents of a 5-month-old girl who authorities say died in 2003 of malnutrition caused by a strict vegan diet are expecting another child within three months, their attorney said Wednesday. Attorney Ellis Rubin said the mother, Lamoy Andressohn, has been receiving care from a medical doctor while continuing to stick to her diet... The Andressohns are charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child. The infant, Woyah, weighed 7 pounds when she died May 15, 2003, about 6 pounds less than she should have at 6 months of age, an autopsy concluded... The Andressohns had Woyah and her siblings on a strict raw food diet that consisted primarily of almond milk and uncooked fruits and vegetables, consistent with the dietary guidelines of their Hebrew Israelite religion."

General expresses high degree of job satisfaction
CNN | Submitted by: Oobatz
"Lt. Gen. James Mattis, who commanded Marine expeditions in Afghanistan and Iraq, made the comments Tuesday during a panel discussion in San Diego, California. 'Actually it's quite fun to fight them, you know. It's a hell of a hoot,' Mattis said, prompting laughter from some military members in the audience. 'It's fun to shoot some people. I'll be right up there with you. I like brawling. You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil,' Mattis said. 'You know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them.'"

Gas-huffing nutball denies drinking fuel
Daily Record | Submitted by: Darth Suffer
"A man has been banned from garages - for sneaking on to forecourts to drink petrol. Brian Taylor, 36, has been branded a four-star pest for slashing hoses to get at the fuel and terrorising staff and shoppers. He was pictured on security cameras pouring a drink of unleaded before doing a maniacal dance while high on fumes... Teesside magistrates heard that on 51 occasions he terrorised staff and shoppers after drinking and sniffing petrol at the filling station at Asda's South Bank store. On several occasions, he was aggressive when they tried to stop him... Taylor denies drinking petrol - but admits he loves to sniff it. Footage showed him filling an empty fizzy drink bottle with fuel, lifting it to his lips and putting back his head. He claims he was just inhaling the fumes."

White House caught salting the press corps
Boston Globe | Submitted by: TheGrza
"The Bush administration has provided White House media credentials to a man who has virtually no journalistic background, asks softball questions to the President and his spokesman in the midst of contentious news conferences... the question of how [Jeff Gannon] gets into White House press conferences is coming under intense scrutiny from critics who contend that Gannon is not a journalist but rather a White House tool to soften media coverage of Bush... [Scott McClellan] said it is not the White House's role to decide who is and who is not a real journalist and dismissed any notion of conspiracy. Nonetheless, transcripts of White House briefings indicate that McClellan often calls on Gannon and that the press secretary - and the President - have found relief in a question from Gannon after critical lines of questioning from mainstream news organizations."

Bush admits ignorance, legislators amazed
Chicago Defender | Submitted by: optional
"President George W. Bush met with the Congressional Black Caucus Wednesday for the first time as a group in nearly four years... Bush - who attended along with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice - was asked by Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-2nd) whether he would support the re-authorization of a portion of the Voting Rights Act that must be approved every 25 years... 'I don't know anything about the 1965 Voting Rights Act,' Jackson recalled the President saying... Rep. Bobby Rush (D-1st) said he recalled the President saying he was 'unfamiliar' with the Voting Rights Act. 'I was surprised and astounded,' Rush told the Defender... According to the description on the Department of Justice's website, the Voting Rights Act is 'generally considered the most successful piece of civil rights legislation ever adopted by the United States Congress.'"
