A government statement read on national radio said trials of the drug Viread by California-based biotech company Gilead Sciences were suspended 'because of lapses and dysfunction.' It gave no further details. A total of 400 prostitutes were taking part in the trials, which began in Cameroon's capital, Douala, in 2003. One group was given Viread and another a placebo to see if those taking the drug had a statistically lower incidence of becoming with infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS." Read article... Police said Compton drove against one-way traffic on Park, after leaving the Town Pump Tavern, and struck Shaina, who was walking to get a friend's car. Compton was off duty. After turning right onto the service drive, Compton hit a patch of ice and his 2004 Ford F-150 truck spun 360 degrees, then struck Shaina and smashed him into a wall, police said. Shaina's body was trapped under the truck when police arrived. He was dead at the scene. Compton, a 9th Precinct officer, refused to talk to police but registered 0.11 blood-alcohol content on a Breathalyzer." Read article... The alleged child rapes happened over a two-year period, but Rick Welty was not arrested until last Friday. Detectives say that is because Welty gave his alleged victim a fake name and age after he met her on a chat line... he allegedly supplied alcohol to two other minors. Whitman was unable to explain to a jury Tuesday why he had sexual intercourse with his one-time foster child and adopted daughter when she was 19, but he continued to deny allegations that he twice raped her at an earlier age. Whitman, 56, testified that his only sexual encounter with the woman, now 21, was during a Baltimore firefighters' convention in the summer of 2002. Wynn would not reveal the number or the gender of children who have come forward with allegations, saying it could hinder the investigation. The Foreign Ministry issued a statement deploring the incident after the French police officers' union expressed anger at the way in which Mr Gaddafi, 29, had twice made fools of them through his claim to immunity in the past six months... The 2-year-old was staying with her father and girlfriend in their rural Desoto home, when a 911 call was made. The child was having seizures. Police believe they were caused by the girlfriend, possibly shaking the child to death. The victim is identified as 2-year-old Codi Aston. According to police, she was killed at the hands of her father's 30-year-old girlfriend. Codi suffered trauma to the head and police think it may be a shaken baby attack. 'One of the causes of death was bleeding on the brain,' Jefferson County Lt. Col. Steve Meinberg said." Read article...
