Man allegedly plotting mass suicide
Wire Services | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A man used an Internet chat room to try to set up a mass suicide on Valentine's Day involving more than two dozen women across the United States and Canada, authorities said. Gerald Krein, 26, was arrested Wednesday at his mother's mobile home in Klamath Falls... Detectives learned of the plan from a woman in Canada who said she saw the message in a Yahoo chat room that had the words 'Suicide Ideology' in the title. The woman, who was not identified by authorities, told detectives she was going to take part in the suicide but had second thoughts when another chat room participant said she would do it and talked about killing her two children before taking her own life, said Klamath County Sheriff Tim Evinger."

Gitmo interrogators reportedly relied on sex humiliation
San Francisco Chronicle | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Female interrogators repeatedly used sexually suggestive tactics to try to humiliate and pry information from devout Muslim men held at the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, according to a military investigation not yet public and newly declassified accounts from detainees... The women rubbed their bodies against the men, wore skimpy clothes in front of them, made sexually explicit remarks and touched them provocatively, at least eight detainees said in documents or through their attorneys... the new allegations and the findings of the Pentagon investigation indicate that sexually oriented tactics might have been part of the fabric of Guantanamo interrogations, especially in 2003. The inquiry uncovered numerous instances in which female interrogators, using dye, pretended to spread menstrual blood on Muslim men, the official said." [Lynndie is sounding more believable every day.]

CIA subcontractor claims US can't touch him
WRAL-TV 5 Raleigh | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"A former Special Forces soldier accused of beating an Afghan detainee who later died says federal courts don't have jurisdiction in his case since he was working outside of the United States. Lawyers for David Passaro contend that provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act that stretched authority to prosecute cases shouldn't apply any places where special operations forces and CIA paramilitary operatives work... Passaro was charged in June with four counts of assault, accused of beating Abdul Wali with his hands, feet and a flashlight as he tried to get information about planned rocket attacks on U.S. forces. Wali died in his cell in June 2003."

Corey Feldman squeals on Jackson
WTEV-TV 47 Jacksonville | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Michael Jackson has been dealt another blow as he fights off child molestation charges - former pal Corey Feldman claims the pop star showed him nude pictures when he was a teen. The former child star, who was a longtime supporter of the Bad singer, tells British journalist Martin Bashir in a 20/20 interview airing Friday night, that Jackson showed him the inappropriate images when he was a young teenager... Bashir asks, 'Were you ever shown any images that were inappropriate?' Feldman responds, 'If you consider it inappropriate for a man to look at a book of naked pictures with a child that's 13 or 14 years old, then your answer would be yes.' But Lost Boys star Feldman stops short of accusing Jackson of molesting him, saying, 'He never harmed me. And he never harmed any children in front of me.'"

Admitted kidfucking priest dies
Minneapolis Star Tribune | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Former priest James Porter, whose widespread molestation of dozens of children from Massachusetts to Minnesota and beyond foreshadowed the clergy sex abuse scandal that swept the Roman Catholic Church, died Friday... Porter's case was the first high-profile one involving allegations that a priest had molested children in his parish - and that the church had simply moved him from parish to parish to try to avoid scandal. CBS News | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Four priests accused of sexually abusing children have been defrocked by the Vatican, the Boston Archdiocese said... Robert D. Fay, Kelvin Iguabita, Bernard Lane and Robert Ward, are 'no longer in the clerical state,' meaning they can no longer function as priests and will no longer receive any financial support from the Boston Archdiocese, the archdiocese announced Friday. Iguabita was convicted in June 2003 of raping a 15-year-old girl while he was assigned to a church in Haverhill in 2000. He was sentenced to 12 to 14 years in prison. Some of the alleged abuse took place at the Alpha Omega House for troubled youth in Littleton, a facility he founded and directed in the 1970s... London mayor reportedly major asshole
Guardian | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Ken Livingstone has been criticised for comparing a Jewish newspaper reporter to a 'concentration camp guard' and branding his paper 'a load of scumbags and reactionary bigots'. The mayor of London made the remarks during a phone conversation with Oliver Finegold, of the London Evening Standard, on Tuesday night after a party marking 20 years since Chris Smith became the first MP to come out as gay. He told Mr Finegold to 'work for a paper that doesn't have a record of supporting fascism' - a reference to the Standard's sister paper, the Daily Mail, which flirted with fascism in the 1930s. He added that Mr Finegold was 'just like a concentration camp guard' after being told that he was Jewish. When Mr Finegold introduced himself as a Standard journalist, Mr Livingstone said: 'How awful for you. Have you thought of having treatment?' Mr Livingstone repeated his question and then asked: 'What did you do? Were you a German war criminal?' Mr Finegold told the mayor that he was Jewish and found the remark offensive."

Scientists pressured for Bush-friendly reports
San Francisco Chronicle | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Scientists in the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service say they've been forced to alter or withhold findings that would have led to greater protections for endangered species, according to a survey released Wednesday by two environmental groups... 44% of the scientists who responded to the survey said they have been asked by their superiors to avoid making findings that would require greater protection of endangered species. One in five agency scientists reported being directed to alter or withhold technical information from scientific documents. And more than half of the respondents - 56% - said agency officials have reversed or withdrawn scientific conclusions under pressure from industry groups... Nearly 30% of the Fish and Wildlife Service scientists queried responded to the survey - a high rate, especially since several regional offices had urged employees not to reply. An official in the Great Lakes regional office asked the staff, in a memo, not to fill out the survey 'in the office or from home.'"
