Chainsaw maniac apparently suicides by cop
MSNBC | Submitted by: Donnacula
"A man was shot and killed by police Monday after he ignored pepper spray and officers' commands and attacked a state trooper with a chain saw, authorities said. At least 13 bullets struck William Henkle after state and local officers who had surrounded him opened fire, police said. Henkle, 40, allegedly struck Trooper Michael Hartzel in the shoulder, lower back and buttocks with the saw... Henkle called 911 early Monday and said he was having a heart attack, but when police and an ambulance arrived, he was outside the house with the chain saw running, said Capt. Kenneth Hill... About 10 state and local officers formed a semicircle around Henkle and ordered him to drop the chain saw, but he revved the saw and refused to put it down, Hill said."

Housecat suicides by cop
Belleville Intelligencer | Submitted by: DarrenW
"An otherwise 'loving family pet' was shot dead by police after the tabby cat went berserk and terrorized a city family late last week... Ears flat back, hair standing on end and eyes bulging, Mickey lunged across the dining room and attacked her daughter, biting through her jeans and slicing into her leg. When the cat released its grip, it continued coming at the girl, shrieking and hissing... While it ran wildly around the interior of the brick bungalow, the cat continued shrieking and began defecating throughout the home... The officer shot the cat square in the chest with his Beretta .40-calibre handgun. 'Even after he shot it, that cat was so hopped up - we're talking about a little, eight-pound cat - Mickey ran down the hall into the bathroom and jumped into the tub,' the husband recollected. 'He didn't die for at least five minutes.'"

Cop busted for apparent DWI, resigns
WEWS-TV 5 Cleveland | Submitted by: Kaiser Wilhelm
"A 23-year police officer was busted again for drunken driving over the weekend and is out of a job, WLWT-TV in Cincinnati reported. Hamilton police officers said they found an off-duty Greg Blankenship passed out in his car in the drive-thru of a Steak N Shake restaurant just before 3 a.m. Sunday. When the Butler County Sheriff's captain came to, his eyes were glassy and his speech slurred, the arresting officers said. Blakenship reportedly refused a breathalizer several times. This was not his first time in trouble. In 2003 Blankenship pleaded guilty to driving under the influence."

High school ROTC commander arrested
Standard-Times | Submitted by: Reid Fleming
"Donald T. Welsh, 62, resigned as commander of the Navy Junior ROTC program at BMC Durfee High School four days before Fall River police arrested him Friday afternoon on kidnapping and enticement charges, court documents show... the retired officer supposedly asked the then 15-year-old victim, a cadet in his program, to help inventory equipment earmarked for the Navy Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps. Col. Welsh supposedly picked up the girl, now 16, in his car, but then headed west across the Braga Bridge... 'She stated that when she asked (Col. Welsh) about going to the high school, he replied, "We're going to my house instead,"' Officer Michael P. Perreira wrote. After arriving at Col. Welsh's home at 179 Medway St., the instructor mixed several rum and cokes for the teen, then invited her to a laptop computer set up in a bedroom, the victim told Officer Perreira. The older man supposedly explicitly propositioned the girl and massaged her shoulders. He showed her two pornographic Internet sites before agreeing to drive her home, the victim told police."

Man charged with plotting to assassinate Bush
MSNBC | Submitted by: Kyro S.
"Family and friends who packed a Virginia courtroom to support Ahmed Omar Abu Ali laughed out loud when prosecutors alleged that the former high school valedictorian had plotted to assassinate President Bush. Abu Ali, 23, a U.S. citizen who grew up in Falls Church, was charged Tuesday with conspiring with al-Qaida to kill the President in a plan that prosecutors said was hatched while the man studied in Saudi Arabia in 2002 and 2003... According to the indictment, Abu Ali discussed Bush-assassination plans with an unidentified al-Qaida member in 2002 and 2003, while Abu Ali was attending college in Saudi Arabia. They discussed two scenarios, the indictment said, one in which Abu Ali 'would get close enough to the president to shoot him on the street' and, alternatively, 'an operation in which Abu Ali would detonate a car bomb.' While the indictment does not identify the conspirator, it says he was one of 19 people publicly identified by the Saudi government in 2003 as terrorists."

Pope calls gay marriage evil
CNN | Submitted by: suicide_nation
"Homosexual marriages are part of 'a new ideology of evil' that is insidiously threatening society, Pope John Paul says in his newly published book. In Memory and Identity, the Pope also calls abortion a 'legal extermination' comparable to attempts to wipe out Jews and other groups in the 20th century. He also reveals that he is convinced the Turkish gunman who shot him in 1981 did not act alone and suggests that the former Communist Bloc may have been behind the plot to kill him." [One would think the Catholic Church would back off on the moralizing, what with the neverending kidfucking priest scandals.]

Tom Cruise still pushing that Scientology
New York Metro | Submitted by: Darth Suffer
"In the upcoming Steven Spielberg remake of War of the Worlds, one family fights for survival when Earth is invaded by Martian war machines. But on the set of the movie, there's been an invasion of another sort: Scientologists! Tom Cruise, the film's star and the religion's most well-known adherent, has set up a Scientology tent with a volunteer minister. 'It's a gift from Tom to the crew,' says Lee Anne De Vette, Cruise's sister and spokeswoman... Scientology literature is available, too, in case 'someone walks in looking for a solution.'"
