"An appeals court on Friday upheld a judge's refusal to dismiss a sexual abuse allegation against a 13-year-old Ogden girl who became pregnant by her 12-year-old boyfriend. The Utah Court of Appeals says the law's "rigorous protections" for younger minors include protecting them from each other. "By every account, the New Year's Day 2005 fight between inmates and guards at Bayside State Prison was terrifying, with broomsticks and clothing irons used as weapons and blood splattering the floor and walls." ... "Twenty-nine guards were treated for injuries ranging from chipped vertebrae and pinched nerves to shortness of breath, according to records provided by a guards' union. "A 12-year-old boy and a 49-year-old man face charges in an alleged arson-for-hire scheme in which the man allegedly paid the boy $125 to torch his ex-wife's car on Christmas Eve. A Stroud Area Regional Police officer was on patrol when he spotted the car fire and saw the 12-year-old riding his bicycle away from the scene. The officer caught up with the boy, who later told police that Osama Alsharife had hired him to torch the car."

Another 14 people from the Greater Darwin Area spent the new year in the lock-up for offences unrelated to festivities ranging from assault to unlawful entry."
