" AUSTRALIA has banned live cattle exports to Egypt after distressing footage was shown last night of cattle having leg tendons cut by abattoir workers. In a report aired last night, Channel 9's 60 Minutes alleged cattle were being stabbed in eye and had their tendons slashed before being killed. An Egyptian abattoir worker told the program tendons were cut to tame the beast before its throat was slit, but footage showed a similar treatment on a placid cattle." ... A former spokesman for the Taliban, Rahmatullah Hashemi, has enrolled as a student at America's prestigious Yale University where he has taken a class on terrorism, The New York Times magazine reported today. The ex-Taliban spin doctor and "roving ambassador", who has spent time in the presence of al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, is now a Yale "freshman" improving his English through a special non-degree program.

Prosecutors said they were forced to drop a child annoyance charge against a man accused of trying to accost an 11-year-old girl because a judge wouldn't allow testimony involving rapper R. Kelly. Sacramento County District Attorney Jan Scully's office said Thursday that Tamiko Carter, 30, approached an 11-year-old girl last September while she was walking to school and asked her how old she was. When she told him she was 11, Carter allegedly asked whether she had a boyfriend, "then told her he was fixing to do an 'R. Kelly,'"
