Long Sleeves Or Short Sleeves?
Christian Science Monitor | Submitted by: lord asshole
"In Sierra Leone, rebel units often asked civilians if they wanted a "long sleeve" or a "short sleeve," and then chopped off a hand for the former answer, and the entire forearm for the latter answer... The civil war in Sierra Leone was a precursor to many wars of the current decade -- most notably the Democratic Republic of Congo -- where warlords and their ill-trained armies carry out horrific attacks on civilian populations. Nearly 500,000 people were either killed or mutilated between 1991 and 2002."

HIM: Do you have a webcam?
GIRL: Yes.
HIM: Go to Home Depot, get a rope and I'll show you, through the webcam how to hang yourself, so it will be less painful. If you wanted to do hanging we could do it together online so it would not be so scary for you... I've got the ropes, stuff ready. Do you have a webcam?

Australian Net Censorship Stalled
Sydney Morning Herald | Submitted by: purple microdog
"The Government's plan to introduce mandatory internet censorship has effectively been scuttled, following an independent senator's decision to join the Greens and Opposition in blocking any legislation required to get the scheme started... This week Senator Conroy said there was "a very strong case for blocking" other legal content that has been "refused classification". According to the classification code, this includes sites depicting drug use, crime, sex, cruelty, violence or "revolting and abhorrent phenomena" that "offend against the standards of morality".
